Recipe: Attention Boosting Bites for Kids
Improve cognitive function and attention span with these laddoos that feature superhero ingredients for brain health.

Have you ever noticed that it seems like kids today have a harder time focusing or staying still for long periods? If you're a parent, teacher, or caregiver, you’ve probably seen it firsthand. But here's something that might surprise you—there’s a way we can help improve kids' focus, and it comes straight from the food they eat!
Yes, that's right—what we put on our plates can be a game-changer for brain health. And no, it's not about giving them a magic pill or a potion—it's all about omega-3 fatty acids.
Dr. Ryan Fernando is a celebrity nutritionist from Bangalore, India. He comes with 28 years of experience and has completed M.Sc Clinical Biochemistry from Goa Medical College, Panaji in 1997 and Food Biotechnology from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland. He is a member of Nutrition Foundation of India (NFI) and International Nutrition Foundation (INF). In one of his podcasts, shared a simple tip to help boost kids' attention span. In today’s digital age, many kids face challenges with reduced attention spans, often due to constant distractions like screens and overstimulation. This decline in attention can impact their academic performance, social skills, and overall cognitive development. However, Dr. Ryan Fernando highlights a simple yet effective way to boost kids' attention span: the right nutrition.
He talked about how Omega-3s—found in foods like flaxseeds, chia seeds, walnuts, and even dark chocolate, are essential for brain health. These healthy fats play a huge role in brain development and cognitive function.
Also, dark chocolate and pistachio contain lutein and zeaxanthin. These lutein and zeaxanthin are carotenoids found in dark chocolate that are beneficial for eye health and help in brain-eye coordination. Find the recipe below:

- 1 tbsp flaxseeds
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1/4 cup walnut
- 2 tbsp pistachios
- 20 grams dark chocolate
- 3 dates (seedless)
Easy Steps
01In a dry skillet, roast the flax seeds, chia seeds, walnuts, and pistachios on medium heat for about 2 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure they do not burn. Once done, remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
02Chop the dark chocolate into small pieces (or use dark chocolate chips).
03Pit and chop the dates into smaller pieces to make them easier to grind. Add the roasted nuts and seeds to a food processor or blender along with chopped dark chocolate and dates. Blend everything together until the mixture starts to stick together and forms a dough-like consistency.
04Once the mixture is ready, scoop out small portions and roll them into balls, about the size of a walnut. These ingredients are sufficient to make 6 balls.
