6 Simple Healthy Go-To Green Smoothie Recipes For Breakfast

When you're running late for work, and short on time, smoothies are your best friend. Nothing can beat the quick-to-make and nourishment level of smoothies that’ll keep you feeling full and energised all day long.

Smoothies are the ultimate time-saving way to have breakfast, especially when you’re in a rush to get to work. The best thing about smoothies is that the additional dose of fibre will satiate you for longer and energise you to tackle the day.

But are you confused about how to make your smoothies taste good? Making a healthy smoothie can be more challenging than it looks, which is why we reached out to New-Delhi based clinical nutritionist and author, Ishi Khosla. Her recent book, The 4-G Code to Good Health, explores the role of nutrition, diet and lifestyle on our overall health. Here are some of her smoothie recipes that can add a nutritious punch to your morning and are easy to make!

1. Coconut Smoothie (serves 4)

 

Ingredients list

  • 1 cup purified water
  • 2 cups coconut water
  • 1 grapefruit
  • 1 cup grapes
  • 2 tbsp coconut meat
  • 2 large handfuls of any leafy green (mustard, amaranth, methi, etc)
  • 2 large handfuls of lettuce
  • ½ handful of Arugula

 

Preparation

 

Step 1 :

Start by blending water, coconut water, fruit, and coconut. Add the leafy greens one by one and blend again, until smooth.

 

Step 2 :

Pour the green smoothie into the nut milk bag or cheesecloth.

 

Step 3 :

Gently squeeze it in order to separate the juice from the pulp.

2. Apple Green Juice (Serves Two)

 

Ingredients list

  • 2 sweet apples
  • 1 large cucumber
  • 1 small lime
  • 2 handfuls of leafy greens (or cabbage, chopped broccoli, basely leaves, mustard greens, etc)
  • A handful of coriander with stems
  • 1 tbsp chaat masala/churan
  • ½ tsp ginger powder

 

Preparation

 

Step 1 :

Put chopped cucumber, lime, greens, and coriander into the juicer.

 

Step 2 :

Add chat masala/ginger powder to the blend. Pour into a tall glass and enjoy!

3. Ginger Green Juice (Serves Two)

 

Ingredients list

  • 1 cucumber
  • ½ lemon or lime
  • 2 stalks of celery chopped
  • 1 tsp powdered cumin
  • ½ -1 inch piece of ginger
  • 2 stalks spinach/other seasonal green leaves

 

Preparation

 

Step 1 :

Chop and add cucumber, lime, celery, spinach, ginger, and water to your juicer.

 

Step 2 :

Add cumin powder, and blend. Pour into a tall glass and enjoy!

4. Citrus Juice Blaster (serves two)

This refreshing juice blend is perfect for spring-time detox and cleansing. High in fibre, antioxidants, and vitamins, it is also the perfect immune booster (diabetics may need to watch sweetness).

 

Ingredients list

  • 2 grapefruit
  • 4 oranges
  • 2 lemons
  • ½ tsp red chilli

 

Preparation

 

Step 1 :

Peel the oranges and grapefruit. Juice them in a juice machine or a citrus press.

 

Step 2 :

Juice the lemon along with the rind if possible.

 

Step 3 :

Mix all ingredients. Serve chilled, or at room temperature.

5. Avocado Green Smoothie (makes 3 cups)

 

Ingredients list

  • ½ cup water
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 1½ cups (240 gm) green grapes
  • ¼ Pear
  • ¼ - ½ avocado, pitted and peeled
  • 1 floret Broccoli
  • ½ cup fresh Spinach washed and cut

 

Preparation

 

Step 1 :

Place all ingredients into the blender.

 

Step 2 :

Blend till smooth. Serve in a tall glass.

6. Everything Smoothie (makes 4 cups)

 

Ingredients list

  • ½ cup almond/ coconut milk
  • 1 cup grapes, red or green
  • 1 medium orange, peeled and halved
  • ½ peach
  • ½ cup fresh pineapple chunks
  • ½ medium carrot
  • ½ cup chopped fresh broccoli
  • ½ cup fresh spinach washed
  • 1 cup frozen unsweetened strawberries
  • ¼ banana, peeled
  • 1 cup ice cubes

 

Preparation

 

Step 1 :

Place all ingredients into the blender in the order listed and secure the lid.

 

Step 2 :

Blend till smooth. Serve in a tall glass.
