Modern medicine lays emphasis on treating the symptoms, whereas Ayurveda’s holistic approach focuses on addressing the root causes of health issues. As per Ayurveda, our well-being is closely connected to our individual constitution or “dosha” and disturbance or imbalance in any of the three doshas can cause an ailment. Ayurvedic practice works on balancing these three doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha) with the help of panchakarma (5 actions), yoga, massage, acupuncture and herbal medicines). It offers umpteen remedies that can aid in balancing your doshas. The ideology of Ayurvedic treatment is to prevent diseases rather than treating it. Ayurveda aims to spread wellness by taking care of our mind, body and spirit.

Ayurvedic treatment relies on one of its most important components- herbs and spices. They help in improving overall health by harnessing the natural healing properties found in nature.  Keep reading to know the importance of different Ayurvedic herbs.

Amla

Considered as an Ayurvedic superfood, amla can be used as food and as medicine. Because of its nourishing properties amla is known as dhatri or mother in Ayurveda. Also, amla is Vayasthapan, which means it helps to keep young and refreshed. Its Tri-dosha-har property aids in balancing all three doshas. Method of consumption varies from person to person based on their doshas. If you are dry or suffer from gas problems, make sure not to consume it raw or even as a powder. According to Ayurveda, for Vatas (gassy or dry humans), the ideal way to consume it is salted, candied or gingered. For Pittas, individuals dealing with heartburn or a hot stomach, try to avoid salted amla as it will further heat your body; have it as a jam or candy.

For individuals suffering from hyperacidity, heartburn or chest burn, or someone prone to mouth ulcers, black raisins could be a game changer for your health.

Soak 10-12 black raisins overnight and eat them on an empty stomach in the morning. Black raisins are also beneficial for people dealing with fatigue or with low energy as they are a great source of nourishment and aid in tissue replenishment. This is because black raisins come under the category of Shramhar, (shram means being lethargic and har means it takes it away from you). So, Shramhar helps to ease your burnout.
