Phool makhanas or fox nuts are quite a popular (and healthy) dish for those who fast during the Navratri festival. Its health benefits are manifold. Here is how you can prepare this nutritious snack and add it to your every day diet.
Makhanas or fox nuts are a plant-based and gluten-free healthy snack with a rich source of good carbohydrates and proteins. They are gluten-free and contain a flavonoid called kaempferol, which has anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing properties. They are also high in magnesium, which is important for heart health and also the regulation of levels of calcium, potassium and sodium in the blood.
Although fox nuts are rich in carbohydrates, their glycaemic index is significantly lower than other foods such as rice and bread. Makhanas are also rich in iron, which is important for haemoglobin formation in the blood and for optimum transportation of oxygen.

Easy Steps
01In a pan, add the olive oil, salt, curry leaves and sauté for two minutes.
02Next add the phool makhana and fry until you see a hint of brown.
03Add a pinch of the red chilli powder, and toss the makhana in the pan, to spread the mix evenly.
04Serve the phool makhana with your evening tea or have it as a snack.
