These gluten-free and vegan chocolate brownies from Mumbai-based nutritionist and lifestyle coach Vinita Contractor are simple, wholesome and delicious. They make use of dates as a natural sweetener, which are high in fibre and contain many essential vitamins and minerals. Dates also contain several types of antioxidants, such as flavonoids and carotenoids, which promote a healthy heart and enhance brain health. The brownies also contain walnuts, an ideal accompaniment to chocolate, which are rich in antioxidants like catechin, ellagic acid and phytic acid. These plant compounds have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties.
