You may be sweating it out in the gym or at your home, but a gentle reminder — skincare routine is important. You heard that right, before you hit those burpees, planks, or crunches, it is imperative to take care of your skin before and after the workout. It's natural to sweat profusely while working out, and this can lead to pore blockages and acne. Mumbai-based dermatologist, Jaishree Sharad sheds some light on a simple pre-and post-workout skincare routine on how to avoid exercise-related pimples and more.

Pre Workout Tips: A pre-workout skincare routine removes dirt, debris, or traces of make-up that can wreak havoc on your skin.
1. Cleanse your face with a good face wash or cleanser before working out to remove any impurities.
2. Do not apply any makeup as it may clog pores and cause skin inflammation, blackheads and pimples.
3. Use a good moisturiser to provide enough elasticity to your skin.
4. Apply sunscreen every time while stepping out of home to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
5. Use antifungal powder as sweat absorbent in armpits, neck and back.
6. Tie your hair back to prevent it falling over your face. This will help to reduce the urge of touching hair or face frequently which can spread acne-causing bacteria.

During Workout Tips:Touching your face with sweaty hands can lead to breakouts. Besides, gym equipment is layered with lots of grime, moisture and filth, accidental contact with skin during exercising can cause skin irritation and acne breakouts. Dr. Sharad has advised certain tips to follow.
1. Stay hydrated to conquer skin dryness due to over-sweating.
2. Avoid touching face as gym equipments are dirty and use clean napkins to wipe out sweat
3. Keep a spray mist bottle handy to wash off sweat, maintain hydration and improve skin texture.

Post Workout Tips: Skincare routine also plays a major role in keeping your skin free from sweat or dirt that might be sitting on your skin causing possible breakouts.
1. Sweat can cause fungus and bacteria to grow. Take a shower immediately to wash off all sweat from your body.
2. Slather moisturiser on damp skin to hydrate after workout to prevent skin from drying.
3. Drink lots of water to maintain skin elasticity and to retain the lost water content from sweating.
